How To Clean Car Seats

Car seats are a necessity to any mother who has just had a baby. It is what we use to transport our baby safely from one place to another and provides a safe shelter for them to sit and rest while we shop or talk with friends. Unfortunately it is also the one thing that our babies use that can become dirty very quickly.

Spitting up, spilled milk, and dirty diapers are some of the few things that we have to worry about when trying to keep the seat clean. These are almost always unavoidable – but the good thing is that they are able to be cleaned. All you need are the right tools and a few minutes of your time.

  • Vacuum
  • Rag
  • Water
  • Gentle dish soap
  • Spot remover

  • Take the seat off of the base and out of the car. Place it on a towel on the kitchen floor so it won’t get your carpets dirty. Remove the car seat cover and use the vacuum attachment to remove any food particles and other debris from inside of the seat. Make sure to dig deep into the crevices and get everything out.
  • Use warm water and gentle dish soap to wash down the outside and plastic parts of the seat. Scrub off any dried food and spilled milk. When you are finished wipe it down with a clean towel.
  • Place the car seat cover into the washer machine through the gentle cycle. You should try to dry it on a clothesline outside to avoid it from shrinking. If this cover cannot be removed easily than you need to clean it with spot remover.
  • When you are done put the seat back together and place it back into the car. Test it to make sure that you have put everything back properly before your baby uses it.
